The massive range (10 squares vs rcb 7 vs karil 8) is really nice to have and the thing is pretty damn accurate (100 vs rcb 90 and karils 84) with decent damage splats (78 range str vs karils 55 and rcb addy bolts 100/mith 82). All the advice I see is Elite void with a dragon crossbow (I can't afford a better crossbow) but, when I run it all through a dps calculator, they say that using Karil's with a blowpipe and adamant darts is better dps than Elite Void with a dragon crossbow and ruby bolts (e). Switching to Void with the same stats has a DPS of 10.0. So you are going to be hitting very slightly higher with void, but you're going to be eating more and get much shorter trips with void. Just eating more alone is going to hit hard on your dps.It has roughly the same dps as karils, but with a special attack. Also with karils you use 1 bolt per attack which can be costly in the long run, while with msb (e), you don't use arrows nearly as often. Greater mage and range defense. Karils is more useful in many circumstances. I'd say go with Karils. You rarely range a monster who uses melee up close where he can hurt you, if defense matters. Blessed dhide is better as the improved magic defence is irrelevant, the ranged defence difference is marginal, the increased melee defence of d'hide helps against snakelings, and the prayer bonus helps not use as much supplies. I doubt it matters too much. I have been learning zulrah fairly successfully with blessed dhide and mystics. How to deal with Karil. I recently started Barrows and I'm currently on 23 chests. Every run I'm having the most trouble with Karil. I've tried two methods so far: melee and Magic. With the melee route I'd dds spec him and finish him off with a Dragon Scimitar. Does not degrade. Armadyl Helm is 1.6m, not an exorbitant amount.
